Characters

As we meet the characters, their names and a brief description will appear here. Click on a character’s name to be taken to their tag, which shows all posts (chapters, art posts, etc.) in which they have appeared or been mentioned.

Yuri Kitazawa – The main character of the story, Yuri is a high school graduate taking a year off before college. She is a relatively average, if somewhat geeky and tomboyish, teenager, with the exception of the fact that she was adopted shortly after birth and raised by her uncle and his wife.

Anna Reese Cooper – Reese is Yuri’s best friend, who agreed to take a year off after high school to raise hell with Yuri and generally have a good time. She recently moved in with their mutual friends, Lexi and Matt, ostensibly to escape her controlling mother.

Corwyn – Corwyn is a strange man (if such a term even applies) who counsels Yuri on how she might return to her home. If he is not a figment of Yuri’s imagination– and all signs indicate that he is not– he seems to inhabit a peculiar dark place. Kiih does not seem to trust him.

Kiih san’Illustra – Kiih, also known as “Jerkface,” seems to be a very rigid and easily angered man. He is very antagonistic toward Yuri when they first meet, which leads to her dubbing him “Jerkface.” Most of his foul mood seems to stem from frustration with distractions from his duties.

Ro sa’Surlan – Unlike his housemate, Ro is a very laid-back individual who seems to be genuinely interested in the welfare of strangers. For some reason, he calls Kiih his “associate,” and seems to have some sort of sway over Kiih’s actions.

Len sa’Vienne – Len works at a coffee shop on the edges of Nachtlin proper, and he seems to take Yuri’s predicament seriously. He is also apparently an accomplished baker. Yuri finds him to be a relatively comforting and trust-worthy individual.

Mercutio Kellaras – Mer owns the coffee shop in which he and Len work. He’s handsome enough, and he and Ro seem to know each other well, to the point where they tend to engage in lengthy discussions to the exclusion of all else.

Olivia Delegarde – Olivia is a beautiful woman Yuri glimpses briefly during her first excursion to the Cathedral at the center of Nachtlin. According to Kiih, Olivia is the next in line to become High Consulate, the highest secular seat of power in Adan.

Silaelin san’Illustra – Silaelin (or Sil) is a priestess of some standing in Illustra’s clergy (as evidenced by Kiih’s deference) . She is kind and knowledgeable, but there is more to her than is immediately visible. She claims to be “bilocated,” a state of being where one person or object occupies two places at the same time.

Mahir san’Illustra – Yuri first meets Mahir during Festival preparations, where she at first mistook him to be a woman because of his androgynous features. He seems to be a cheerful and friendly person. Mercutio and Kiih are both acquaintances of his.
